Katahdin Sheep Grazing
Hello little ones! Farm work is a little bit sweeter when these babes keep you company 😀

PASTURED LAMB

Because sheep are such amazing grazers they are the bloodline of our pasture based operation. Without them we would forced to mow our pastures for chickens and turkeys. With the sheep and their lambs we are able to move them weekly to new paddocks on our farms. The grass starts at about knee high and when they are finished grazing it's about four inches, perfect for poultry. Keeping the grass short for out poultry allows them to get all of the nutrients possible when foraging. This is only possible with our sheep, or as we call them, our "Lamowers"!

All of our lambs for meat are pasture raised and able to consume as much grass as desired. During the winter months they are given free choice of quality hay. They also receive about 5% of their diet in non-GMO corn and oats from local farmers.

WHERE'S THE WOOL?

The breed of sheep we raise are a hair variety, called Katahdins. They are wool-less, easy care, meat type sheep that are naturally tolerant of climatic extremes. Katahdins do not require shearing and produce much less lanolin than a wool producing sheep. The meat is lean with a very mild flavor!
